We have recently added several features and tools to this website which are available to customers on current software maintenance. During the weekend of Saturday December 19, 2009 Pike and along with several other Eastern Kentuckyy counties experienced a winter storm, consisting of heavy, wet snow.  Snow depths at some higher elevations exceeded 16” while many lower areas received six to twelve inches. The considerable volume of wet and therefore heavy snow brought down significant numbers of trees, power lines, etc. Reports indicated 38,000 homes and businesses were initially without power, with 16,000 remaining powerless through Sunday night.

In an effort to track and resolve incoming needs Pike County Emergency Management utilized the new XG Call Taker feature of the GeoSync XG EM (Emergency Management) Suite. The application is also being used to track resources, shelters, and shelter populations.  All data is stored in a shared environment, therefore all users of the XG software see changes as they are happening, during the incident, in real-time. GeoSync XG EM provides reporting tools which Pike County has utilized, during this latest emergency, to produce Incident Reports (call, status, and resolution lists). Status updates are reflected, in realtime, on the XG map.

The GeoSync XG EM Suite is built for Emergency Management offices and agencies and includes the Call Taker, Incident Reporting and Damage Assessment applications.  The Damage Assessment Application has already proved its worth in the spring 2009 Flooding (see article here) and has been improved and expanded to better serve our Emergency Management customers.  The GeoSync XG EM Suite is slated for formal release in the First Quarter of 2010.

These enhancements focus on improved Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) accuracy for data collection under a variety of conditions that deliver significant benefits to users of Trimble Mapping & GIS solutions". The big news here is the new software versions work with, and improve, most Trimble GPS devices. The new software versions are Pathfinder Office 4.2, TerraSync 4.1, GPS Correct 3.1, and GPS Analyst 2.2.
