GeoSync Release Notes

December 1, 2005

This document details the major changes in GeoSync 3.2 from the previous version 3.1.

The GeoSync 3.2 Help File also contains a “What’s New” section that includes topics on each of the new features introduced with this release.

Additional Features

The following tools have been added in GeoSync 3.2:

·                 A Measure Multiple Distance tool to allow the user to select a point and measure the distance to an unlimited number of other features while retaining the first point as the starting point of the measure action.

·                 An Add Point Feature tool to add new point features to any point layer without entering ‘edit mode’.

·                 A Move Point Feature to edit the location of a point feature on any point layer without entering ‘edit mode’.

·                 A Copy Map tool that will place the current map view on the system clipboard.

·                 A Zoom to Image tool to zoom to the extents of any image layer within the project.

·                 A CAD Zoom In tool to zoom in the current map display to twice the previous scale with a single button click.  This tool does not automatically install, but may be accessed by customizing the main tool bar.

·                 A CAD Zoom Out tool to zoom out the current map display to half the previous scale with a single button click.  This tool does not automatically install, but may be accessed by customizing the main tool bar.

·                 A Hydrant Flow Calculation tool has been added to the identify dialog.  This tool allows for the specification of an external hydrant database and will calculate and update flow rates based upon user-supplied parameters.  The tool parameters can be specified with the Hydrant Flow Settings tool dialog.

·                 A Batch Hydrant Flow Calculator has been added to re-calculate hydrant flow rates for the entire system.

·                 A tool to Plot Incident records has been added to the Data Source Manager.  This will allow the user to specify any database that contains either coordinate pair information or addresses and the tool will generate the points in the map on a given layer.

·                 A Create Midpoint from Line tool is now in the Advanced Tools of the Layer Tools interface.  This will generate a point layer that contains a point at the exact midpoint of every feature in a line layer.

·                 A Build Intersection Layer tool has been added to the Advanced Tools of the Layer Tools interface.  This will generate a point layer called ‘Intersections’, which is based upon a ‘Roads’ layer, that will contain searchable attribute of the street intersections.

·                 A ‘Zoom List’ tool bar has been added.  Any Layer Tool that generates a report whose first column is FID (featureID) can load the report results into the Zoom List.  This can then be used to automatically zoom and move to each of the features in the list.

·                 A GPS2GIS toolset has been added for users licensed with the GPS2GIS add-on.

·                 A Planning and Zoning toolset has been added for users licensed with the Planning and Zoning add-on.

Enhancements

The following tools have been significantly improved in GeoSync 3.2:

·                 The Quick Label tool has been added to the toolbar in the main map view allowing the Quick Labels to be used when not in Layout View.  The Quick Labels now have settings that can be changed to alter the font, color, etc.  These Quick Labels will additionally get saved to the GeoSyncÒ project and will be re-loaded for each session.

·                 The Grid tool will now allow for the specification of a lettering/numbering index using letters for the column headers and numbers for the row headers or vice versa.

·                 The Grid tool also will allow the user to specify a layer to filter on and all cells that do not encompass a feature on that layer will not be created.

·                 Any changes and/or customizations made to the toolbars will be saved when the project is saved and re-loaded during the next session.

·                 The Soils tools will now save and update a value for Soil Class 0

In addition to the above major enhancements and added features, many other changes and performance enhancements have been made to GeoSync 3.2.

Bug Fixes

The following reported bugs have now been addressed

·                 The value renderer will now save changes made to the outline color of polygon layers.

·              The customizations to toolbars are now saving properly and will not cause toolbar corruption if saving the project in Layout View.

·                 When modifying Map Tips and Quick Searches, the settings are no longer being corrupted.

·                 The bug that sometimes caused GeoSync to crash upon shutdown has been fixed.

·                 The road address tool now retains the selection set in the order the features were selected.

·                 The identify dialog would get out of sync when retrieving a backed up layer that had a different number of fields than the layer it replaced.  This is now fixed.

·                 Users can no longer produce single-point polygons in edit mode.

·                 Changes to the buffer color in the project settings are now being saved to the project.
