To activate: Tools menu / Soils
View soil type, acreage, and cost per parcel on the SOILS tab using either the Identify tool or Selection Report.
To Set Up:
Add the parcels layer and soils layer to the project. The parcels layers must be named PARCELS, the soils layer, SOILS.
Under the TOOLS menu, select SOILS and SETUP SOILS LAYER. The Folder/File Explorer opens.
Browse to the location of the SOILS.gss file to be used. A copy of this file is installed in the GeoSyncV_3 / PVADLL folder in the directory GeoSync is installed (the default install location is C:\Program Files\GeoSyncV_3\PVADLL)
Note for GeoSync users on a network: A copy of the SOILS.gss file should be copied to the network drive designated for GeoSync / GIS mapping files. All projects should then be pathed to this location when setting up Soils.
Under the TOOLS menu, select SOILS and SOIL SETTINGS.
In the Soil Settings dialog enter a value for each Soil Class as needed.
Click Apply and OK.
Under the TOOLS menu, select SOILS and SOIL UPDATE. GeoSync analyzes the Soils and Parcels layers and updates SOILS.gss file with the area of each soil class for each parcel. (This step is also repeated as needed to update the soils assessment information.
Use the Identify tool or Selection Report on the PARCELS layer to view the Soils tab and information.
To update:
Adjust the Soil Class values (if needed): Under the TOOLS menu, select SOILS and SOIL SETTINGS. Update values as needed. Click Apply and OK when done.
Under the TOOLS menu, select SOILS and SOIL UPDATE. GeoSync analyzes the Soils and Parcels layers and updates SOILS.gss file with the area of each soil class for each parcel.
