To activate: Layer Tools / General tab

 


 

Generates a grid layer.  User specifies size of grid by entering width and height of grid cells and the number of rows and columns.

 


 

To use:

  1. Open Layer Tools.  Click the General tab.

  2. Select the grid coverage layer as the current layer.

  3. Activate the Grid Display tool.  The Grid Extents dialog is displayed.

  4. Select either Screen Extents (for the current extents) or Map Extents (for full map extents).  

Note:  The screen and map extent grid coordinates are for user reference for placement of grid.  For example, to create a grid for a small area, zoom in to the area of interest.  Press Screen Extents to see the current extents for a guide on what coordinate to enter for the new grid.

  1. Enter the coordinate value for the upper-left X and Y.

  2. Enter the width and height of the grid cells.

  3. Enter the number of columns and rows of grid cells.

  4. Press Grid Extents to calculate the lower-right coordinate values.

  5. Press Preview to view the grid for size.

  6. Press Apply to create the grid layer.

Note:  The Grid Preview Screen contain coordinates grid coordinates at the bottom of the form.  These numbers (the difference values, specifically) assist the user in determining grid placement.
