Attach Image to Shapefile

Images can be attached to any field of a Shapefile layer. Photos attached to a field names either PHOTO_ID or IMAGE_ID can be displayed as a photo MapTip.

To attach an image file to a Shapefile feature record:

1. Create a field called Photo_ID or Image_ID with a Field Data Type: String (see Modify DBF Structure).

2. Open Layer Manager and activate Setup Data Sources.

3. Define Photo Path: Click on right side of field next to Photo Path field. (see File / Folder Explorer).

4. Then click on right side of field next to Config File field.

5. The Configuration Options dialog appears. Under Field Name, select appropriate photo or image field.

6. Under Option Type, select Image. Check appropriate image type(s). Select OK.

7. Exit Layer Manager.

8.  Identify a feature to which photo is to be added.

9. Click on the right side of the blank field next to the Photo or Image field.

10. The Enter Photo Name dialog appears. Click on the triple dot box.  

11. Select desired image file (see File / Folder Explorer). Select Open.

12. Select Preview to view image.

13. Double-click on previewed image to open GeoSync Imager.
