When you click the Curve button on the Deed Entry dialog, the Curve Input dialog opens:

The Curve Input dialog

Curves used in the DeedRunner program require that the Chord Bearing, Chord Distance, Arc Length and Radius be known. A curve solver is included to help calculate Chord Distance, Arc Length and Radius if one of these items is not known.

  • DeedRunner assumes that the Chord Bearing is a known. If the Chord Bearing is not known the user must use other means to determine the Chord Bearing before entering the curve into DeedRunner.
  • Curve Definition - Right or Left represents the direction of the curve assuming that you are standing on the beginning of the curve and looking ahead. Radius, Arc Length and Chord Length are required values to properly define a curve.
  • Chord Length Button - This button calculates the Chord Length based on the Radius and Arc Length values entered in their respective text boxes. It compares the calculated Chord Length to the Length value in the Chord (Bearing and Distance) frame. If there is a discrepancy the program updates the Length value with the calculated Chord Bearing. This is necessary to ensure that the Chord Length and the Curve Definition are compatible.
  • Curve Solver - Enter a single item in each column and select the solve button. The radius and arc length will be calculated and the text boxes in the Curve Definition will be automatically filled out.
  • DONE - Saves the curve information for addition to the deed call list.
  • Cancel - Cancels the curve definition and prevents it from being added to the deed call list.

A Curve Input Example

"thence continuing with the southwesterly right-of-way with a curve to the right (clockwise) having a radius of 1055.93 feet for a chord of N 54deg 46' 12" W 72.34 feet (an arc distance of 72.35 feet) to a point..."

  1. Enter the Chord Bearing and Distance just as you would any other call. Select the Curve button before adding the call to the description list. The Curve Input dialog appears.
    1. Select the Right option in the Curve Definition area - this is the direction of the curve.
    2. Enter 1055.93 in Radius on the left side under Curve Solver.
    3. Enter the Arc Length in the Arc Length Box on the right side of the Curve Solver Area.
    4. Click Solve. Radius, Arc Length, and Calculated Chord Length appear under Curve Definition. Select done to return the Deed Entry form. Click ADD the Call will be added to the description list box and will include the necessary curve information.
  2. Select the View tab to view the curve.
