The GeoSync application is installed on a local hard-drive of a computer, the default install location being C:\Program Files\GeoSync_V3
The path may be changed upon installation.
Upon installation, GeoSync sets a security path and project path to the install location.
Project data, which is not installed with the GeoSync program, is manually assembled on a server when shared by multiple GeoSync workstations or on the local workstation when utilized by a single license of GeoSync.
Some of the folders and data used commonly in a GeoSync project:
Aerials: Digital Aerial Photography (i.e. DOQQs)
Fonts: Storage of True Type Fonts, typically ESRI or Trimble fonts, for installation on workstations.
BlankMDB: Blank copies of template database files (i.e. PVAmap.mdb, MyTRIM.mdb…)
Config: Configuration files (layer options or drop down boxes) files for PVA Explorer, SketchCodes.csv, etc.
DeedRunner: Storage for files created with DeedRunner.
EditSHP: Master copy of Layers to be edited. These layers are copied to the ViewSHP folder for viewing purposes.
GpsData: Shapefiles exported from a GPS processing application such as Pathfinder Office; Most often this data is appended to "Master Layer" then disgarded
MDB: Master Database files (separate from mapping); usually linked to layers in a GeoSync project
ViewSHP: Storage of layers and Image Catalogs for viewing purposes (view only).
TempMaps: Scanned and otherwise captured imagery usually for the purpose digitizing.
Sketches: Storage of files created with GeoSketch (i.e. building footprint sketches).
GsProjects: Root folder for GeoSync users, projects, etc.
GsUsername: Individual user's folder. Storage of user's project files and other individual data.
CountyGISShape\ Storage of current map view shape files for a GeoDatabase project.
DataLog\ Storage of automatic backups (i.e. TEMPDIR). This folder will grow in size continuously and must be managed manually.
GsShapes\ Storage of Shape files for a GeoDatabase project.
Reports\ Reports created in GeoSync and exported most often as an .xls or .csv file (Waterloss reports and anything from Selection Report, etc…)
WaterShape\ Storage of P2K Nodes and pipe layers
GsSecurity\ Storage of the geouser.pwd file (list of user names, passwords & rights). Security path in GsConfig should be set to this folder.
GsUpdates\ Storage for all downloaded and otherwise obtained updates for GeoSync. Updates should be downloaded to this folder and then unzipped in this folder
V3_Updates\ Root folder for GeoSync V3 updates
GsUpd_30??\ Individual V3 Updates. Contains update wizard & files.
Images\ Storage of Digital Images linked to mapping (i.e. Photos).
SampleData\ (Optional) Storage of a "clean" copy of GeoSync sample data (County GIS). Used to copy a clean set of sample data instead of re-installing it.
Topos\ Digital Topographic Images (i.e. DRGs)
GsUtilities\ Miscelaneous tools such as ShpName.exe, SketchConversion, Address Cleanup, JetComp, Font Dump, etc...
